Client workbooks are an innovative and engaging way of embedding tenancy training with clients traditionally excluded from group training.

In 2009 we launched five client workbooks which mirror the five Supporting People Outcome areas. Each workbook includes six separate worksheets which can be completed individually or in sequence.

The worksheets are designed so that:

• They are fit for purpose. Each worksheet is designed to take a maximum of twenty minutes and allow time for goal setting. It allows staff to discuss familiar problems in a different and engaging way.

•  They are as flexible as possible. Each of the worksheets can be completed in one of least three different ways using our patented cog learning system. The cog system allows staff to deliver each worksheet in a way which appeals to their client and multiple times, if appropriate.

• Accompanied with supplementary guidance. The staff user guide provides three different sets of instructions for each worksheet. The instructions are targeted at three distinct types of learners; visual (those who have solid literacy skills and don’t mind educational activities); auditory (those who prefer to talk about their own experiences as a means of learning) and kinaesthetic (clients who prefer to do practical tasks i.e researching furniture recycling as a means of learning).

• They don’t exclude on the grounds of literacy. Our materials are designed to be targeted at by Level 1 learners but unfortunately some activities(like in life) need a level of functional numeracy i.e. calculating interest which may be above this.  To get around this problem we have made sure all the activities can be completed through a conversation recorded by the staff member. In this way our materials are a way of you identifying and supporting basic skill problems.

Our workbooks are not exam papers or designed to be a conventional paper based excerise. They cannot be completed by clients exclusively and are primarily a tool to facilitate discussion and interactive learning.
